Oscar In Asia

Yet another mediocre vacation blog!

Raw Footage – Japanese Lemon Cake for lunch!

So here is some more raw footage.

This time, I get a tasty lemon pound cake from a local convenience store and decide that combined with apple juice and cigarettes it makes a decent lunch! ;)

Thanks for watching!

Raw footage – REMM Hotel Akihabara 2 of 2

Here is the second part of my video review of the REMM Hotel Akihabara (Tokyo, Japan)

Here I take a look at the in-desk safe, look at some Japanese coins, and ponder the price of the water bottle that was left in the room.

Again, this is un-edited raw footage. No fancy intro movie, no music bed, etc. This is probably how I will do videos on the next trip. Actually having me talk during shooting seems a bit more engaging to viewers than my previous videos.

At any rate, here is the video:

Raw Footage – REMM Hotel Akihabara 1 of 2

Howdy folks,

Yes, I know I’ve been back from my trip for a while now. But I’m going to post a bunch footage that didn’t make the cut of my “Oscar In Asia” video series.

This is my little video review of the REMM hotel in Akihabara (Tokyo, Japan).

At any rate, enjoy the video!

Sponsors, B-roll footage, and the future!

So, my trip has finally come to an end. (Quite some time ago, actually).

Before this blog vanishes into obscurity as my last one did, I’d like to point out my new sponsors as listed on the SPONSOR page.

It’s just some Amazon stores that I set up to sell various things to help pay for my vacation.

Google PR2 achieved!

This blog has been my most successful yet. I have managed to climb from page rank 0 (where all websites start), to page rank 2. Which is pretty successful for someone’s lame vacation blog. In fact this is the most successful blog I have made yet. (Trust me, I’ve made quite a few in the past)

I think much of the success of this blog came from my use of YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, which I suppose gives the website a big of “internet cred”. Google just loves sites that have those things. My last blog “OscarInThailand” from back in 2009, never got above pagerank 0, even though it was filled with much more text than this one.

I’m not sure what I’m going to do with this site. I’ll probably return to Asia sometime in 2013. I hope to spend MUCH more time in Japan, and much LESS time in Thailand. I’ll also give the Philippines a pass completely. I’m sure it has it’s charms, but I didn’t spot any on my brief visit. Japan was just too awesome for words, I feel that I didn’t even scratch the surface of things to see and do after a week. Heck, I didn’t even have enough time to fully explore Akihabara properly!

In the meantime, I will probably be going through the contents of all my SD cards and posting a bunch of raw footage from the trip on YouTube with links to this website to avoid killing it with lack of use.

OscarInAsia – Episode 15 – Pattaya SCUBA training

So as I mentioned, I did some SCUBA training while I was in Pattaya. Here is a video about it.

Thanks for watching!

Oscar In Asia – SPECIAL – Beans

Not sure what the British fascination is with these really bad canned beans. Seems they want to put them on everything.

So I’ve been staying at the Queen Victoria Inn (an English run hotel), which is the same as living directly above an English Pub. So it seems all my breakfast selections involve BEANS for some reason…

Oscar In Asia – Episode 14 – Pattaya by Baht Bus

Pattaya by baht bus.

Diving school and Thai doctors

The dive school had me visit a local doctor as they were worried about my recently diagnosed diabetes and wanted a medical release from a doctor.

The doctor they sent me to was a Thai lady with the last name of Bellen. The British dive instructor I had was all too amused with her last name as apparently it is very close to a British slang word for the …umm… male organ. I learn something new everyday…

Never been to a doctor in Southeast Asia before. She had a little clinic near the dive shop on the other side of 2nd road here in Pattaya.

She checked my blood pressure, lung functions, heartbeat, told me that with diabetes I should cut down on carbs and stop smoking. All in all the same exact physical I got from my doctor in Sarasota.

The difference? Even WITH insurance I ended up paying more out of pocket than paying full fare with the Thai doctor. The Thai doctor cost me 150 baht which is about $5 US!!

Also the Thai doctor did the exam herself and didn’t depend on PA’s to do the work for her!

Just found it all very interesting.

Oscar In Asia – Episode 13 – Video Music Kiosk

So I found this custom music video kiosk at Royal Garden Plaza here in Pattya.

150 baht to have a custom VCD of me in a music video. Why not! I’ll annoy my thousands of loyal viewers with this now! ;)

Enjoy!

Learning to dive in Thailand

So I am going to be taking a diving course here in Pattaya.

I am using the Aquanauts dive shop located just down the street from me.

So I walk in and pay them 16000 baht (About $540 US). But first thing they do is give me a huge book that I’m apparently supposed to study for homework. **sigh**

Well, I can’t think of a better way to kill the afternoon I suppose, not much else to do here really…
